What Does "Structurally Deficient" Really Mean For Bridges?

According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, nearly 10% of the 600,000+ bridges in the United States were “structurally deficient” as of 2016. Almost 40% of U.S. bridges are more than fifty years old, and the maintenance backlog for bridges is now in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
